Women in Politics & Bureaucracy

If you're anything like me, current events in the United States of America have stoked a fire in your political gut. I've felt passion for a great many topics in my life, but I had never considered running for a political office until now. As I explore this topic and find (and vet) resources in this arena, I will start posting them here.  I believe all persons, not just men, have an incredible capacity to do good in our society by becoming more involved in the political realm.

EMILY’s List is the nation’s largest resource for women in politics. announced a new online training resource to help women run for office. The EMILY's List Training Center offers pro-choice Democratic women and their teams online materials and resources to help them win campaigns. The Training Center is available for free (basic mini course) or for a fee of $9 per month (premium full course). The monthly fee of $9 will be considered a contribution to EMILY’s List.  For more information visit  trainingcenter.emilyslist.org

Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) works directly with citizen groups to educate them on how Congress works, giving constituents a stronger voice in policy outcomes. The results are: a Congress more accountable, transparent, and effective; and an informed citizenry with greater trust in their democratic institutions. They offer publications for free download on topics like building a Congression staff, reports on staffer and intern satisfaction, and even guides on creating work-life balance as a member of Congress.

Wounded Warriors & Families

There are tons of resources and oodles of information out there to assist wounded warriors and their families. I will update them as I come across them. For now, here's a start.

Navy Wounded Warrior Safe Harbor is the Navy’s organization for coordinating the non-medical care of seriously wounded, ill and injured Sailors and Coast Guardsmen, and providing resources and support to their families. Through proactive leadership, the program provides individually tailored assistance designed to optimize the success of the shipmates’ recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration activities.

National Resource Directory is a website that connects wounded warriors, Service Members, Veterans, their families, and caregivers to programs and services that support them. It provides access to services and resources at the national, state and local levels to support recovery, rehabilitation and community reintegration. You can also consult their excellent Caregiver Resource Directory.

National Military Family Association  Founded in 1969, the National Military Family Association is the leading non-profit organization focusing on issues important to military families. We believe that all military families deserve comprehensive child care, accessible health care, spouse employment options, great schools, caring communities, a secure retirement, and support for widows and widowers.

Hearts of Valor is a network of people caring for wounded, ill or injured service members, created and maintained by Operation Homefront. Operation Homefront seeks to support these caregivers in their own journey of healing by facilitating an online community that provides social connections to other caregivers in similar situations, fostering support groups by geographic area to encourage resource sharing and friendships, and sponsoring annual retreats to provide education on relevant issues. (Review coming soon!)

Operation Homefront provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of services members and wounded warriors.

VA Caregiver Support recognizes the important role caregivers play in the health and well-being of our Nation's Veterans. The Caregiver Support Program offers training, educational resources, and other tools for caregivers to care for their Veterans and themselves. They have a Caregiver Support Line for advice on being a caregiver available 24/7 at 1-855-260-3274. Licensed professionals staff the support line to connect Veterans and their caregivers with VA services, a Caregiver Support Coordinator at the nearest VA medical center, and offer a compassionate ear.

Fias Co. Farms is a great source for learning how to manage your goatherd, problem-solve medical dilemmas, and even how to make goat milk-based products like cheese and yogurt. They are considering an expert-resource in the goatherder community.
